Autodesk has released the Performance Enhancement Tool to address reports of bloated drawings and excruciatingly long AutoCAD Civil 3D drawing load and save times. This problem affects drawings using any version 2013 through 2017. As is Autodesk policy, they only support three versions prior to the current, so the fix described below will cover 2014 through 2017. If you are using 2013, you might consider – should seriously consider – upgrading to a more-recent version.
Addendum, July 29, 2017: Autodesk has updated the Civil 3D Batch Save Utility. Click here.
For AutoCAD Civil 3D 2017, the Performance Enhancement tool is part of Service Pack 1.1:
http://up.autodesk.com/2017/civ3d/sp1.1.msp
For AutoCAD Civil 3D 2016, the Performance Enhancement tool is part of Service Pack 3:
http://up.autodesk.com/2016/civ3d/c3d2016_x64_sp3.msp
For AutoCAD Civil 3D 2015:
1. Locate the file: C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2015\AeccNetwork.dbx
2. Check the version of this file. The old file version is 10.4.524.0 (3.08mb)
3. Rename the current AeccNetwork.dbx to OLD_AeccNetwork.dbx
4. Download Performance Repair 2014_2017.zip from https://autodesk.box.com/v/c3dperformancefix
5. Extract the zip contents to a known folder.
6. Browse to the extraction folder, and open the RepairTool_R2015 folder. Copy aeccnetwork.dbx to C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2015\
For AutoCAD Civil 3D 2014:
1. Locate the file: C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2014\AeccNetwork.dbx
2. Check the version of this file. The old file version is 10.3.894.0 (3.17mb)
3. Rename the current AeccNetwork.dbx to OLD_AeccNetwork.dbx
4. Download Performance Repair 2014_2017.zip from https://autodesk.box.com/v/c3dperformancefix
5. Extract the zip contents to a known folder.
6. Browse to the extraction folder, and open the RepairTool_R2014 folder. Copy aeccnetwork.dbx to C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2014\
Important Note: You must install the fix on every AutoCAD Civil 3D workstation that accesses your drawing files. Any drawing that is fixed, if opened by an un-fixed Civil 3D and saved, will be re-infected.
Another Important Note: Installing the service packs and/or aeccnetwork.dbx is only the first step. Your drawings need to be fixed. Each drawing that you own needs to be opened and saved with the updated software. This would be a herculean task if you had to do it manually, but Autodesk has supplied a batch file, script and instructions on how to fix all drawings in a particular folder and its subfolders.
Read the instructions then download the Batch File and Script for your version.
